Fierro Hotel Boutique
Address: Soler 5862
Neighborhood: Palermo Hollywood
City: Buenos Aires
Opened in October 2010, Fierro’s 22 superior rooms and four balcony suites all measure 441 square feet, start at $150/night, and come with 32-inch LCD TVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, iPod docks, and rain showers (no bathtubs, alas). The suites also include complimentary use of an iPad during your stay. Sure, all of that sounds pretty nice, but for just $250/night why not splurge on the 535-square-foot Terrace Suite, which includes its own large red eucalyptus deck, raised Jacuzzi, and brick barbecue pit, better known as a parilla in these parts? No matter your choice, there’s also a heated outdoor pool with hydromassage chairs and deck on the seventh floor, complete with a sauna and Jacuzzi. (Although there’s no in-hotel gym, Fierro has a deal with a nearby health club for complimentary workouts, and there are in-room massages.) On the ground floor, the excellent Hernán Gipponi Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with a small garden on one side, while a wine cellar holds weekly tastings and is curated by the president of the Argentine Sommelier Association. Behind the scenes, Fierro even has a private generator, so you won’t have to worry about Buenos Aires’s pesky summer blackouts.

Avoid refueling your rental car at gas stations too close the airport. You'll find better gas prices a few exits away and still be able to return the car with a full tank.
