Nova Scotia

iStock International
Nova Scotia — The rugged Canadian province of Nova Scotia, located just off Canada’s southeastern coast, is dotted with picturesque fishing villages, long stretches of sandy, swimmable beaches, and magnificent wildlife. Bluenosers (as residents call themselves) inevitably have some sort of connection to the sea. Ask pretty much anybody and they’ll tell you either that they own a boat, have a close relative who runs a fishing business, or have a grandfather who was a rum-runner or shipbuilder. But the charms of Nova Scotia aren’t limited to its fog-shrouded, seafaring history. The province has a unique hybrid culture that is equal parts Mi’Kmaq Indian, Acadian, and Scottish, and, at the same time, 100-percent Canadian.

Why Go

For the rugged North Atlantic coast, quaint seaside fishing villages and lighthouses, and Cape Breton wildlife.
