Address: Caleta Hanga Piko
City: Easter Island
The most affordable way to see Easter Island is to pitch a tent. Camping Mihinoa, off of Pont Avenue, makes the process easy with tent rentals, inflatable mattresses, sleeping bags, basic bathroom facilities, internet access, and a shared kitchen. Sure, you’ll be roughing it, but you’ll be roughing it under the stars on Easter Island, with perks like nightly barbecues upon request ($12 per person) and guided excursions to historical sites to help you overlook annoying details like the lack of hot water in the bathroom. A word to the wise: unless you’re a really sound sleeper with an unusual penchant for rain and wind, you’ll want to avoid the off-season from July to August.
