With 91 rooms the Charleston - one of three hotels in the Colombian hotel chain Charleston Hotels - isn't boutique, but it's certainly no Hilton either. The beautifully restored 17th-century convent is the largest hotel and one of the most charming and original in Cartagena's UNESCO World Heritage Centro Historico. Rooms are located in either the classic colonial wing that dates to the 17th century or the newer 20th-century Republican wing; units in both wings feature flat-screen TVs and Wi-Fi. The two lovely stone courtyards, each with a restaurant, one with typically dressed Palenqueras servers, sets the atmosphere that is carried with you as you step out into the walled city.
