Cuba

Cuba — While a recent loosening of the travel restrictions to Cuba by the Obama administration has made it much easier to visit the country legally, Americans are limited to highly structured “people-to-people” trips through licensed tour operators that center on interaction between Cubans and Americans. That said, Havana is a sultry array of history, tropical beaches, and a warm culture, and La Habana Vieja is a must-see maze of charming plazas, street markets, and museums that will take you straight back to the 1950s. Schedule visits to other parts of the country for a varied landscape of mountains, rainforests, and tobacco and sugar cane fields, as well as intimate encounters with Cuban families.

Why Go

For a crash course in Cuban culture and history that is at once fascinating, exhausting, eye-opening, and unforgettable.
