Depending on your travel preferences, Mexico’s Los Cabos region can make for a posh escape or a beachfront bargain. Luckily, the resorts here cater to both styles, so you have plenty of options when it comes to accommodations. Whether you have a yearn to splurge or you're looking to stay on budget, here’s how to make the most of this popular vacation hotspot.

Luxury...

Celebrating a milestone or desperately want to re-do that spring break trip to Cabo? Go big and and book a room at a luxe-minded property. Dozens of high-end resorts fold food, drink, and other amenities into the rate, and effectively add more value. What's more, by the end of this year, brands like the Four Seasons, Nobu, and St. Regis will open properties in Los Cabos.

StayGrand Velas Los Cabos — an all-inclusive resort that opened in late 2016 — feels more boutique-y than cookie-cutter. All of the seven restaurants embrace a theme (such as molecular gastronomy or Frida Kahlo) and the spa clocks in at 35,000 square feet. Every one of the 304 guest rooms and suites face the ocean. Rates from $582  per person, per night. To find this rate, select your desired dates and choose two adult; solo travelers may have to pay a single supplement.

Dine: El Farallon at The Resort at Pedregal is an intimate restaurant located atop a cliff. Diners kick off their meal by picking their own fish at the on-site market. Also, be sure to check out  Sunset Monalisa, where you can enjoy a three-course meal prepared by a Michelin-trained chef as you admire the gorgeous sunset and sweeping views ($104). You'll also find an oceanfront terrace with a Champagne bar, too.

See the Sights: You’re beyond booze cruises, aren’t you? Instead, hop aboard a yacht for a two-and-a-half hour sailing via Cabo San Lucas Tours ($360 for four people), which includes an open bar and chef-prepared meals. For $80, you can take a two-hour jazz-and-wine sunset cruise with the same outfitter. If you’re a foodie looking to learn more about the local cuisine, head to Los Tamarindos for a cooking class. You'll start at the farm to pick out ingredients before heading to the kitchen to prep your own four-course meal ($127.30 per person).

Budget...

Fortunately, beach towns often include lots of free or low-cost outdoor entertainment. Access to a pool — with bars, music, and food service — are the norm at most hotels, regardless of price point. In addition to lounging by the beach and swimming in the pool, read on for other wallet-friendly activities when you need a break from the sun.

Stay: In December 2018, the 48-room Mar del Cabo opened next door to Grand Velas Los Cabos. The aesthetic here is sleek; you'll find whitewashed walls, stylish hotel rooms, and minimalist designs (but with cheery hues). Encanto serves meals all day long, and the pool overlooks the beach. Rates from $200 per night.

DineInstead of blowing your budget on a few grand meals, consider piecing together your own food trail. El Merkado Centro Gastronomico is a new food hall that's so massive that you may need two or three trips to experience it all. Here, you'll find oysters, tacos, burgers, pancakes, BBQ, sushi, and Neapolitan-style pizza. Need a cool treat? Treat yourself to a paleta (popsicle) at the Montage Los CabosPaletas marketplace, where you'll find this much-loved, refreshing snack in an array of colors and flavors.

See the Sights: You probably don’t equate Cabo with museums. However, at Solaz, A Luxury Collection Resort (which opened last fall), you can find a 34-acre museum on site (admission is free). Among the highlights is an intact whale skeleton suspended from the ceiling. At Flora Farms, you'll find a farm, a spa, a boutique, and a restaurant. You can also take a cooking class, embark on a medicinal plant walk (where you'll learn about the botanical and medicinal benefits of the plants on the farm and in the desert), get your zen on in a yoga class, and partake in a painting class. Since it would be practically criminal to depart Cabo without entering the water, consider visiting one of the public beaches (bonus: many of them are free), including Medano Beach, Chileno Beach, and Palmilla Beach. You can take a water taxi from Medano Beach to Land’s End (the famous rock formations located on the southern end of Cabo San Lucas between Playa del Amor and Playa del Divorcio), for around $10.
