Once two separate resorts – one on Bora Bora proper near Matira Beach and the other on a nearby private motu – this Sofitel became one in late 2009. It now features a total of 95 bungalows in five categories, from beach to lagoon-view to overwater. While all are on the cozy side (560 square feet and smaller) compared to the newer luxury properties, the recently renovated (in 2006) décor is chic and sophisticated; for the most privacy and the best water access book an island luxury bungalow-overwater. There are two restaurants (one, on the motu, has panoramic views and is only open on select nights) and a pool (in the mainland resort area), plus a central, sociable bar and a small spa.
