Before you even enter the Sofitel, the building’s stunning Renaissance facade demands a second look, but don’t judge this “book” by its cover. The interior is anything but historic, with a gutsy, two-toned (purple and gray) avant-garde design that parlays classical grandeur into something cleaner and sharper in the 396 rooms. Au courant amenities include WiFi, an excellent fitness center, an indoor pool, and a sauna. The location next to the Hauptbahnof (main train station) makes it easy to get out and explore the surrounding countryside, plus, it’s only a short walk from happening Marienplatz, at the heart of Munich.
