Themed Cruises
There's a special-interest cruise for almost every occasion.
MUSIC: The best music cruises are full-ship charters for unfettered noisemaking night and day. They offer meeting and mingling with the artists, music clinics, and impromptu jam sessions. Book early, because almost all sell out. Here are a few, covering a range of genres: Jam Cruise (jamcruise.com); BluesCruise (bluescruise.com); The Jazz Cruise (thejazzcruise.com); The Rock Boat (therockboat.com).
CHOCOLATE: Many cruise lines present a chocolate buffet at least one night of each cruise, but Costa Cruises is promoting a seven-night Chocoholic Cruise. Featuring Food Network chefs Duff Goldman and Warren Brown presenting their fave chocolate specialties, it will sail through the Eastern Caribbean starting January 5, 2008.
WELLNESS AND HEALTH: On the other end of the spectrum are cruises that offer specially designed wellness programs, from antiaging seminars to yoga classes and vegan cooking workshops. In 2008, Regent Seven Seas will offer two Mediterranean cruises (departing May 26 and June 2), led by renowned wellness guru Oz Garcia. Also recommended: Costa’s “Holistic Holiday at Sea” (departing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on March 30, 2008), with more than 50 workshops on topics including shiatsu massage and meditation.
