Jason’s Walks

There is no better way to find out about Hong Kong’s history than to take a walking tour with Jason Wordie, local historian and writer. Wordie’s trips roam about Central, Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Stanley, The Peak, Western, Kowloon, and Shau Kei Wan, and look at life in these areas in yesteryear, revealing the significant number of historical sites and buildings that still remain among this concrete jungle. Military buffs should join the battlefield tour, which retraces the advance of the Japanese during the assault on Hong Kong in December 1941. Book at least one week in advance; private and group tours are available.

Morning Harbour & Noon Day Gun Firing Cruise

During the summer months, one or more typhoons pass by Hong Kong, with some directly striking the territory. Watertours runs a two-hour cruise to a typhoon shelter, where sailors take refuge, along with their junks, during the storms. The tour also passes by the Noon Day Gun in Causeway Bay at firing time, which, as the name suggests, is at 12pm. The Noon Day Gun is operated by Jardine Matheson, Hong Kong’s oldest trading company. Tours run year-round, but are canceled when the threat of a typhoon looms.
