In May 2006, the Italian Boscolo hotel group transformed what was a grand old Budapest café into a luxury hotel. As befits a Boscolo property, the décor can seem over the top, with lots of gold touches throughout. There are 185 rooms, including 31 suites, with sumptuous furnishings like silk wallpaper, marble bathrooms, and Murano chandeliers. Hotel amenities include chauffeur, secretarial, and baby-sitting services; a business center; and a spa and fitness center. Don’t miss the famous café, once a haunt for Hungarian artists, poets, and journalists, now an opulent tourist favorite that was the backdrop for a scene from Bel Ami (2011), starring Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman.
