Cozumel — Best known as a scuba diver’s paradise, the island of Cozumel, a common stop on Caribbean cruise circuits, is ringed with Technicolor coral reefs. On land, it’s a dream Caribbean destination too, with a lively small town (San Miguel), long, palm-shaded beaches, lush jungle, and ancient Mayan ruins like El Cedral and San Gervasio. Only a 45-minute ferry from Playa de Carmen on the Mexican coast, the serene isle is often called a Cancún of ten years ago.
