When to Go to South Africa
South Africa’s seasons are opposite those in North America. Summer falls between November and March and the inland regions can get uncomfortably hot. This is also when the resorts and national parks tend to be the most crowded. The winter months are extremely pleasant with warm dry days and cold nights; game viewing in Kruger National Park is best in the winter months as vegetation becomes sparse, but some visitors prefer the lush flora of the summer months. The coastal regions enjoy a pleasant, Mediterranean-like warm climate year-round. Annual rainfall averages less than 10 inches in the west and 40 inches in the east. Go in the spring to see the blooming wildflowers of the Western Cape provinces. Go in the fall to witness the wine harvest.
