Buenos Aires Hotels

Some of the city's most luxurious hotels, like the Four Seasons and Park Hyatt, charge steep rates – $350 to $450 per night. But our preferred Buenos Aires hotels offer better value and character. If you're going to spend over $400, the Alvear Palace (Av. Alvear 1891; 011-54-11-4808-2100; www.alvearpalace.com) in Recoleta is still considered the city's plushest old-world hotel and repeatedly voted South America's best. Guests are swathed in opulence (e.g. Hermès bathroom goodies, antique French furniture, and personalized butler service). Still, we'd splurge instead on the108-room Philippe Starck-designed Faena Hotel + Universe (Martha Salotti 445; 011-54-11-4010-9000; www.faenahotelanduniverse.com), the city's first large-scale boutique hotel, in Puerto Madero; not only can you take regional art, food, history, and dance classes here, but you'll be offered your own personal concierge, too. Another great hotel that's high on luxury but worth the price tag, is the Sofitel (Arroyo 841/849; 011-54-11-4131-0000; www.sofitel.com) a five-star hotel on one of the city's most alluring streets, located in Microcentro. Built in 2003, it has comfortable smaller rooms on its lower floors and spacious upper-floor suites with striking views of the river and city skyline. Good-value choices include stylishly minimalist studios and suites at Recoleta's Loi Suites (Vicente Lopez 1995; 011-54-11-5777-8950; www.loisuites.com.ar) and Palermo's boutique-y Hotel Home (Honduras 5860; 011-54-11-4778-1008; www.homebuenosaires.com) with 14 music-themed-room and a pool.
