Buenos Aires Restaurants
Dining in Buenos Aires is a food-lover's dream come true and where the value of your trip can really manifest itself. Argentina's superb Malbec wines are very inexpensive. Entrées at the city's finest restaurants range from about $6 to $14, while more everyday establishments can dip as low as $2 to $6 per entrée. Not to be outdone by Rio's cariocas, Buenos Aires' porteños eat even later, typically beginning around 10pm. Many places even serve weekend brunch until 8pm. The choice of cuisine spans an atlas of options including everything from the Swedish-inspired reindeer meatballs and aquavit shots at Olsen (Gorriti 5870; 011-54-11-4776-7677; entrées from $7) to Moroccan cuisine – think lamb in coriander pesto – at Bereber (Armenia 1880; 011-54-11-4833-5662; entrées from $7). However, Argentina's traditional pampas-grass-fed, free-range cattle are known the world over, and sampling some beef at one of the city's parrillas (traditional steakhouses) is an absolute must – we particularly recommend the stylish La Cabrera (Cabrera 5099; 011-54-11-4831-7002; entrées from $6), hugging a leafy Palermo street corner – arrive early to avoid a long wait at this steak house packed with carnivores and oenophiles. Ultra-mod Sucre (Sucre 676; 011- 54-11-4782-9082; www.sucrerestaurant.com.ar) is the pinnacle of contemporary Buenos Aires cuisine and worth the cab ride to the Belgrano neighborhood just north of Palermo.
