Built in 1984, this landmark five-star hotel may be slightly frayed around the edges and missing a little soul but it still offers superlative service, decent rooms with upscale amenities and good value. Situated in Sandton, the heart of Johannesburg's new Central Business District, it is conveniently close to the Sandton City Shopping Centre, the International Conference Centre (ICC) and Nelson Mandela Square's myriad shops and restaurants. In spring 2010, the food and beverage area was totally refurbished, with a brand-new sixth level now offering a full spectrum of food and beverage outlets. For pamper-needy guests, there is a spa on the premises, situated on the mezzanine level, steeped in the values of the East and inspired by Africa. The seven treatment rooms, each with its own shower and toilet, guarantee privacy. Don't miss the signature treatment, the 'Sea Whisperer', a fusion of massage styles from around the world.
