When To Go

Winter and early spring are peak season because it’s drier (and in the case of Arenal, January through March are the months you’re most likely to catch clear views of the volcano and its eruptions). Late spring through fall is the rainy season, but even during that time of year the downpours tend to be limited to parts of the afternoon. You'll get your best bang for your buck by going in late November and December, and again in April, once school breaks are over – the prices remain low, the weather is pleasant, and there are fewer crowds to contend with.
