Nightlife
Maui is not
known for its nightlife (better to head to Honolulu for that). But you will find some
live music joints on the western coast, mainly in the old whaling town of Lahaina (now a tourist center) and the more residential area of Kihei south of that. One secret: you might catch one of your
favorite mainland acts like Ziggy Marley, Sting, or Hot Hot Heat at the Maui
Arts & Cultural Center (1 Cameron Way, Kahului; box office Mon-Sat 10am-6pm;
808/242-7469; www.mauiarts.org ) near Wailuku, and tickets tend to be cheaper
and easier to get than for concerts back home. The center also books a lot of
Pan-Pacific talent and is a great place to see and hear local Polynesian acts.
