When To Go
The seasons and temperatures in Rome are similar to those in southern California. And as with most places in Europe, spring and autumn are the best time to be in Rome. Summer, the high season, can be humid, with the temperature often reaching 100 degrees. Winter can be slightly too cold to enjoy an outdoor café. That said, the low season, in the winter, is a magical time in Rome, when the city is filled with only a sprinkling of tourists and visitors can easily share the squares and salt-of-the-earth restaurants with the locals. It's also the time when you'll get the best bang for your buck, as hotel rates drop during the cold weather months.
