Daufuskie Island
Deserted beaches, plentiful tee times, and absolutely no car traffic – that's what Daufuskie Island, situated between Savannah, Georgia and Hilton Head, South Carolina, is all about. The few who do know of it come for its two championship golf courses (one with three oceanfront holes), spa, equestrian center, tennis courts, and several miles of virtually untrammeled white-sand beaches. Accessible only by passenger ferry or private boat, the only modes of transportation once on island are bicycle, golf cart, and your own two feet. And, with only one hotel and a handful of vacation rental homes to choose from during your stay, you're bound to feel that you're in on a secret shared only with the pods of dolphins that gather just offshore.
