Kaikoura
Located on the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island, the small seaside town of Kaikoura enjoys international acclaim as an eco-tourism center. And, when it comes to whales, it ranks as one of the world's most likely places to see a mighty sperm whale, thanks to the throngs of them that like to congregate off its shores pretty much all year long. What’s more, you’ll also spot orca (December to March), humpbacks (June and July), and occasional pods of pilot whales, all of them joined by dolphins, fur seals, and seabirds that come together here to compose an incredibly rich marine environment.
