The Draw In this Flemish port town, Old Masters coexist with avant-garde fashion designers, much the way expensive finery lives alongside excellent flea-market finds. Antwerp’s northern European cool rivals that of Copenhagen or Paris, without hitting their prices.

Don’t Miss The clothes. Find the designs of the Antwerp Six (including Ann Demeulemeester and Dries Van Noten) at Het Modepaleis (32/3-470-2510) and Louis (32/3- 232-9872). For something older, shop the many antiques boutiques along Kloosterstraat, especially if you’re in the market for mid-century furniture design. The street is open on Sundays, when most everything else is closed.
