Smart Splurge
Sherman's Expert Review

Old-world elegance attracts stars and royalty to this legendary 67-room hotel on the Amstel River featuring a spa, indoor pool (very unusual for Amsterdam), and a Turkish bath. In the rooms, expect floral patterns, grand, classical furnishings, and marble bathrooms. The hotel’s La Rive restaurantmore – one of the few in Amsterdam featured in the Michelin guide – is a generously proportioned spot with decorous service and a French-Mediterranean menu.

The hotel is sensational (huge rooms, great service, great view) but in a terrible location if you're there to sightsee or otherwise enjoy the canal zone. Also no alternatives to the amazingly overpriced Intercontinental breakfast - more on that... more

"Amstel"

Beautiful hotel with great service. Overlooking the canal, the Amstel is in a great location. It''s easy to jump on the near-by tram and get all over Amsterdam. Price of a room is high but very worth the expense.
