Phoenix and Tucson sunshine is best enjoyed January through March, when daytime temps linger in the high 60s and low 70s. Book 2-3 months ahead.  Spring and fall are most congested for Sedona, while further north, expect summer crowds and higher rates at the Grand Canyon’s South Rim – even if temps can push 100 degrees.

The summer heat in Tucson and Phoenix can be downright treacherous (June-August). Late summer also sees dramatic thunderstorms. On the upside, it’s easy to score fantastic deals on lodging. Winters in Sedona (December-February) are chilly and have even seen snow. Many Grand Canyon attractions and services close from November through April, when temperatures can drop below freezing.

Overall, when planning to visit Arizona, spring and fall are your safest bets for ensuring that you won’t melt in the desert or dodge snowstorms near the Grand Canyon. Spring is ideal in Tucson and Phoenix, with the forest and desert plants in full bloom. Sedona’s summer can be quite hot, but you’ll find better deals on lodging and have lots of warm, sunny days with low humidity for your outdoor activities.
