Though it has all the quintessential trappings of a picture-perfect Caribbean beach retreat – miles of white sand bordered by the aquamarine sea – the topography of the northern coast, especially around Arikok National Park, with its desert-like terrain dotted with cacti and peculiar rock formations, is unique in the Caribbean.

Oranjestad Pastel-colored Dutch colonial architecture along with dozens of restaurants, shops, and museums make up downtown Oranjestad, the island's easily walkable capital on Aruba's western side.

Palm Beach Smooth spread with the island's finest sand, two piers, several watersport outfitters, and big-name hotels like the Occidental, Hyatt, and Westin.

Eagle Beach East of Palm Beach, Eagle Beach is Aruba’s second-most-popular stretch; it’s a tad quieter than the former, with low-rise resorts, timeshares, and a few bars.

Arikok National Park On the northeast side of the island, surrounding the 577-foot Mount Arikok, this ecological preserve covers about 20 percent of Aruba with a landscape that’s more reminiscent of the Southwest than the Caribbean.
