With “Aspen” as a byword for glitz, glamour, and glorious skiing, lodging rates run high (even mobile homes in Smuggler Park sell for more than $1 million). Still, in between the accommodations that cater to the AmEx Black Card crowd, a number of moderate and budget properties do exist, though its unlikely you’ll find anything under $200 a night in high season.
Aspen is arguably the definitive foodie resort—after all, one of the Western hemisphere’s most hallowed gastronomic events is June's Aspen Food & Wine Magazine Classic. The downside to top restaurants and internationally renowned toques are prices higher than the Rockies. Still, there are plenty of meat-and-potatoes and pizza joints round out the haute offerings.
