Aspen: Neighborhoods

Aspen is laid out on a simple grid plan (like most mining towns) and bordered on its north side by the Roaring Fork River. Its historic West End and Downtown are both walkable.

Downtown Easily explored on foot, downtown is characterized by colorful Victorian buildings and shops. Many of the most fashionable boutiques and restaurants are located in former saloons and gambling parlors.

Durant Avenue Although technically part of downtown, this former red-light district is now one of the town’s toniest addresses. Most of the area’s modern, upscale hotels are here abutting the base of Aspen Mountain.

West End Primarily residential West End is one of Aspen’s highest-rent districts. Many of the opulent Victorian mansions here are owned by celebs, Jack Nicholson included.

Snowmass Village Located at the base of the Snowmass Ski Area, the largest of the four ski areas operated collectively as Aspen/Snowmass, this charming village is experiencing a renaissance thanks to a partnership between industry leader Intrawest and the Aspen Skiing Company, or SkiCo in local parlance.
