Australia's Gold Coast: When To Go

Peak Season: mid-October to January While Queensland’s peak tourist season usually runs from December through January, high season on the Gold Coast kicks off early thanks to an international motor race (the Indy 300) and a local tradition known as “Schoolies Week” (like Senior Week, geared to kids graduating high school) – expect large crowds and thumping beach parties. Book early.

Off-Season: June to August The winter months offer warm, sunny days (daytime temperatures average in the high 60s) followed by mild, cool evenings (nighttime temperatures average in the low 50s). But with the average water temperature in the high 60s, there’s still plenty of great beach action – so don’t forget to pack your swimwear. What’s more, with fewer tourists around, you’ll find great deals on accommodations.

Sweet Spot: February to May; September to early-October With fewer tourists, more pleasant temperatures (daytime temperatures average in the mid 70s), and good deals on accommodation (except over the Easter weekend) the shoulder season is a great time to plan a holiday to the Gold Coast.
