Austria When To Go

Peak Season: June to August
Austria’s warmest months attract large numbers of foreigners to the cities and mountain resorts. Fortunately, even if crowds fill the streets, Vienna is nothing like steamy Rome or Barcelona in the summer – the country enjoys a temperate climate, even in July.
Off Season: November to March
Accommodations from hotel rooms to chalets are easy to book and often discounted during Austria’s winter, with the exception of busy Christmastime. Snow and ice can make road travel difficult during this period, so it’s better to go by train.
Sweet Spot: April to May; September to October
Spring and fall are excellent times to visit Austria because of the fair weather and diminished tourist presence. Be aware, however, that snow cover still exists in the country’s more mountainous regions through May.
