Bali Things To Do

Smart Splurge    Great Value
Amed and Tulamben
These remote areas are Bali’s most popular diving and snorkeling sites. A shallow World War II shipwreck offers easy access to the colorful underwater world, including the area’s wide variety of fish and sharks.

Ubud
Culturally-rich Ubud is an essential stop. Visit its shops (you’ll find everything from wood carvings and batiks to clothing and paintings), galleries, and bars. Just be aware that nightlife comes to a screeching halt at 10pm.

Situated on the slopes of Gunung Agung – a site regarded as holy since pre-historic times – 18 separate sanctuaries make up the Besakih, Bali’s largest temple. Reserve the hike up the mountain for the dry season.

Geger Beach
Near the Nusa Dua golf course is one of Bali’s best off-the-beaten-path beaches. Its clear waters are suitable for snorkeling, swimming, and surfing – just take care to swim within the two red flags to avoid the strong current.

Jimbaran Beach
Skip busy Kuta Beach and head south to Jimbaran Beach with its beautiful white sand, upscale resorts, and excellent (albeit pricey) restaurants – get some of the island’s freshest seafood here. Quieter than neighboring beaches, it’s also refreshingly street-vendor-free.

Gunung Batur
Rising over 5,500-feet above Bali, this active volcano provides amazing island panoramas. The only catch is that you’ll have to hike to the top – an enjoyable experience, but not one for the weary. G.A.P. Adventures runs tours.
