Banff: Neighborhoods

The towns of Banff and Lake Louise anchor one of North America’s most stunning wilderness areas, Banff National Park (Canada’s first, established in 1885). The area offers 2,564-square-miles of awe-inspiring alpine scenery and a wide range of four-season recreational activities. Wildlife sightings are common year-round.

Banff A quaint, well-preserved yet surprisingly sophisticated turn-of-the-century mountain town with charming Tudor-style timber and fieldstone architecture, fascinating museums, contemporary spas, historic hot springs, and fine dining.

Lake Louise This small town 35 miles northwest from Banff oversees the eponymous lovely alpine lake and acts as gateway to glacier country. It’s both a summer and winter sports haven.

Bow Valley Parkway The scenic highway that links Banff and Lake Louise offers its own remote lodges, wildlife encounters, and hiking snowshoeing trails. There’s also rock-climbing on Castle Mountain and ice-climbing in Johnson Canyon.
