Bavaria Itineraries

Long weekend
Fly into Munich and spend 2 or 3 days exploring the city. Rent a car for day trips to Freising, a well-preserved Medieval town that’s home to the oldest brewery in the world, and Augsburg, a center for textiles founded by the Romans in 15 AD.
One week
Spend 2 or 3 nights in and around Munich (consider staying longer if you visit during Oktoberfest) before driving into the Bavarian Alps, where you can take a cable car to Zugspitze, the highest point in Germany at 9,718 feet. Then travel through the Bavarian countryside via train or rental car to Nuremburg (1 night) and Würzburg (1 night). Continue on to Regensburg (1 night), a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates to Roman times, before returning to Munich.
Two weeks
With Munich as your home base (plan on at least 3 days in and around the city), two weeks gives you enough time to experience all that Bavaria has to offer, including a cruise down the Danube, a joyride on the Autobahn, and immersive cultural tours of Augsburg, Regensburg, Nuremberg, Passau, and the countless villages you’ll encounter along the way.
