Berlin Neighborhoods

Mitte
The center of the city is home to the glass-domed parliament, the Reichstag, trendy shopping paradise Hackescher Markt, sprawling Tiergarten park, historic Brandenburg Gate, and the somber Holocaust memorial, to name a few highlights.
Prenzlauer Berg
This comfortable neighborhood in the former east of the city is home to artists, students, and hip young parents. An ideal place for brunching, or browsing in cute boutiques.
Kreuzberg
Hipster bars and Turkish restaurants and shops go arm in arm with artists and squatters in this diverse neighborhood. Have a kebab or milchkaffee (latte) canal-side, then check out the Jewish Museum.
Friedrichshain
An up-and-coming area with its own unique, not-quite-gentrified character. Check out the vast socialist Karl-Marx-Allee, then retreat to a sidewalk café for a beer on trendy Simon-Dach Strasse.
Charlottenburg
Once its own city, Charlottenburg boasts a grand palace, the popular zoo, an upscale shopping district, and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church –an unforgettable reminder of the devastations of war.
Schönenberg
The birthplace of Marlene Dietrich and the site of JFK’s historic words “Ich bin ein Berliner” (“I am a citizen of Berlin”) is also a lively center of the gay community. Find European glamour at the high-end KaDeWe department store.
