This lovely small hotel is just a five minute walk from downtown Hamilton's hustle-and-bustle and offers high quality for less than most Bermudian lodgings. The traditional pink-and-white 1903 main house, carefully restored, features a wraparound front porch with rocking chairs and canopied swings. Free continental breakfast is served in a warm whimsical room (painted square columns and wood parrots contrast with polished hardwoods and white wicker) with picture windows surveying tranquil, elaborate gardens with stately palms and fragrant fruit trees. All 32 sun-filled rooms, suites, and cottages have A/C, flat-screen TV, coffeemaker, hairdryer, safe, iron/board, and high-speed Internet access; most include kitchenette. Many were converted from the living rooms, bedrooms, and parlors of the original house and boast such embellishments as cathedral ceilings, triple-crown moldings, pastel-hued walls, and tall windows.

A luxury retreat since 1885, this Victorian-style property continues to attract guests both for its old-world charm and its excellent location on a large harbor just a short walk from Hamilton’s shops and restaurants. The spacious 410 rooms overlook either the harbor or the oleander- and hibiscus-filled garden. The only thing missing is a private beach, a drawback the property addresses with complimentary shuttle service to the beach at the Fairmont Southampton. The freshwater and saltwater pools are a lovely alternative to the waves should you feel like staying close to your room.

Horseshoe's idyllic scene – boulders resembling abstract sculptures, sand dunes as curvaceous as Rubens nudes, and astonishing turquoise water surrounding offshore shoals – has inspired countless artists.

Nature lovers will be in heaven on these immaculately manicured gardens, whose 35 acres encompass more than 100 species of flowers and plants including orchids, roses, ferns, and banyan trees. Camden House, the official residence of Bermuda’s premier, is located in the midst of the gardens, and is open for tours.
