Great Value
Sherman's Expert Review

If it weren’t for the fact that the address of this hotel doubles as its name, it would be pretty easy to bypass its brownstone façade, which is so unassuming that it blends in seamlessly with the neighboring private homes of this quiet residential street. Budget-conscious travelers wouldmore be wise, however, to keep their eyes peeled for 463 Beacon Street, where one of the most economical lodging choices in the city can be found right smack in the heart of Back Bay. Some 20 guest rooms are scattered throughout the five floors of this converted turn-of-the-century mansion, but be warned – there are no elevators here, so guests lodging on the upper floors should prepare for a bit of a workout. There is, however, one room on the fifth floor with its own balcony and (partially obstructed) river view that make it well worth the trek. While the simple rooms are individually decorated, many have winning features such as high ceilings, hardwood floors, and ornamental fireplaces. Note that a few of the least expensive rooms do not have a private bath; several of those that do, however, feature antique linen cabinets built right into the walls.

"great stay"

My son (16) and I stayed three days in room 50. It has a double bed (good luck sharing), but we did okay with that. It is on the 5th floor, no elevator, but if you're in decent shape its worth it. Why? Because its got a private bathroom and a... more

I stayed here in September while visiting graduate schools.  It's definitely not the Ritz, but like previous reviews, the location cannot be beat.  The amenities are limited, and the building dated, but it has a lot of charm.  The staff was... more

"Frequent guest"

Let's be honest, the place is a lot cheaper than all other hotels in the area and is close to everything (shops, transportation, etc)

"Boston on a Budget"

What a wonderful find! Well located -- walking distance from the T, from Fenway, and BU -- and so reasonably priced. After booking a room at these prices I expected, frankly, a dump. Far from it. The room was large (the bathrooms are small) and... more

"Ok but..."

My wife and myself booked this B&B largely on the recommendation of the “Rough Guide” for USA 2007 (similar to GO in the U.S.). Our stay was in August 2008 for four days. We’d expected good things as the “Rough Guide” is usually spot on... more

They are now charging $158 per night. The rate seems to depend on the dates you request to stay. The location very good.

"Excellent Value for money"

This is an excellent value hotel in a top location - ideal for enjoying the sights of Boston. We stayed in room 1 which was described to us as a large double and they weren't joking - it was huge! King size bed, incredibly comfortable sofa and... more

I recently stayed here with a friend for two nights in mid-October.  I had done a lot of research and realized that Boston was definitely not cheap in terms of hotels.  I read some decent reviews here on http://tripadvisor.com and so decided to... more
