Brazil When To Go

Since Brazil is in the southern hemisphere, December holidays conveniently coincide with summertime weather and a collective migration toward the coast. Jam-packed beach towns are pricier during the festive New Year's celebration, while Rio is colorful and chaotic during Carnaval. This is not a good time to visit the Amazon, however, as its wettest months are January through May.

During Brazil’s winter, you won’t have to fight the crowds. The prices are lowest during this time, and the temperatures are still comfortable. This season is perfect for visiting the Amazon, and in Bahia, the weather remains pleasantly tropical.

The week of Easter can be crowded and expensive in Brazil’s cities (though the flower-bedecked celebration is lovely to behold), but October and November bring temperate spring weather, fewer tourists, and a moment of calm before rainy season starts in the Amazon.
