Secluded on over 100 acres of prime pasture and woodlands at the end of a narrow, tree-lined stone road, the Barley Sheaf Estate is a sprawling colonial farmstead dating back to 1740. The estate, which has a total of 16 guest suites, includes the original manor house, a graceful 19th-century barn, and a quaint cottage. In true Pennsylvania country tradition, all rooms are furnished with antique décor such as wooden furniture and four-poster beds. Attentive details such as a complimentary wine and cheese reception every day from 4-6pm, brunch in the conservatory, a miniature horse farm, and a decadent private service spa with a junior Olympic-sized pool make these fields of barley worth crowing about.

Cozy rooms, old-time porches, and charming waterfront views establish the Bridgeton House as a relaxing riverside sanctuary on the Delaware. This 12-room guesthouse dates back to1836, when it was originally built as a private residence. Nine of the rooms include a private balcony with river vistas (the best place to enjoy the in-room breakfast of pumpkin-pecan waffles). Even though the property includes a sophisticated local art gallery and posh extras like featherbeds, in-room fireplaces, and soaking tubs, the pace at the Bridgeton House remains laid-back and distinctly Mark Twain, allowing guests to go fishing from the private dock or for an old fashioned swim in the river.
