Cabo San Lucas Local Tips

Follow the Diamonds
Luxury-seekers should pay attention to the diamond rating system rather than the star-system. In Mexico, diamonds represent higher standards than stars, with five diamonds being the highest rating a property can receive.
A Smoother Ride
Have your hotel operator set you up with shuttle service (about $18). The ride from the airport can be 45 minutes to an hour long; cabs aren’t cheap (expect a $75 fare) and buses make several stops.
Dollar signs
There is no need to exchange currency – American money is accepted almost everywhere, as are most credit cards.
Catch & release
When fishing, “catch and release” is strongly encouraged. Fishing operators urge anglers to release their catch – in exchange they receive a certificate and the knowledge that plentiful fish will be there upon their return.
Pack a picnic
Bring lunch if you plan on spending the afternoon on the beach – unless you’re headed to Palmilla or El Medano where restaurants are plentiful, you’ll find yourself high and dry unless you plan ahead.
Rent-a-Car
The best way to explore Cabo’s beaches is to rent your own set of wheels – rates average $50-75 per day. Avis has a rental office at the airport.
