Cape Town When To Go

Peak Season: December to February

The seasons are flipped in the southern hemisphere, and, although Cape Town’s summer can be unreasonably hot in the upper 70s, it doesn’t stop the crowds from escaping cold winter climes by flying south. Resorts and national parks are usually packed to the gills.

Off Season: June to August

The winter months are still pleasant since the Mediterranean-like climate stays fairly warm year-round (average temperature: 64 degrees). It’s an agreeable time to visit if you don’t mind chilly nights and sporadic showers.

Sweet Spot: March to May; September to November

The spring brings blooming wildflowers and fall heralds the wine harvest. Both are great times to visit if you’re looking to save pennies and avoid crowds, just be aware that October and early November tend to be rainy. Temperatures average in the high 60s.
