Settled by the Dutch and English, this Hudson-River-adjacent county is flanked by charming, historic, colonial river towns like New Paltz and Saugerties on the eastern border, while leafy roads lead west to hippier, artier, and more upscale hamlets like Woodstock, Phoenicia, Mt. Tremper, and Shandaken.
