Croatia: Itineraries

Long Weekend Most flights land in Zagreb, so spend a day exploring Croatia’s attractive capital. Then drive south to Split, take a ferry to Hvar for two days, and return to the mainland to continue south to Dubrovnik. Or, skip Dalmatia altogether and head instead to the scenic Istria peninsula for two seaside days in Rovinj or Poreč and spend the rest of your time exploring inland hilltop towns.

One week After sampling the Zagreb vibe for a day, head south to Split and spend a day ambling its ancient quarter before you board a ferry for a three to four-day island-hopping adventure and, as the finale back on the mainland, a visit to Dubrovnik for a day or two. Nature enthusiasts should stop by Plitvice National Park en-route to the coast.

Two weeks Two weeks is enough time to explore both Croatia’s capital and the rustic charm of nearby Hrvatsko Zagorje; the coast and interior of Istria; as well as the highlights of the Kvarner Gulf and Dalmatia, including Rab, Split, the Kornati archipelago, Hvar, and Dubrovnik.
