Croatia: When To Go

Peak Season: July to August During the peak Adriatic season, both locals and tourists descend on the Adriatic coast and its islands for fun in the sun. Not only is it the priciest time to visit, but the seaside and roads, restaurants, and ferries are absolutely packed. Inland Croatia hibernates during this time and Zagreb empties out.

Off Season: November to March Inland Croatia gets its fair share of snow and cold weather during this time so forget about outdoor fun. Still, the Adriatic coast’s mild Mediterranean climate means temperatures rarely dip below zero, and you’ll meet few tourists and enjoy rock-bottom hotel prices.

Sweet Spot: April to June; September to October In June and September, prices are lower, the sea temperatures pleasant, and most locals have either yet to arrive or have already left. That said, May is an even better time to visit, as you’ll contend with fewer tourists, as well. April and October are cooler, but hotels offer good shoulder-season rates.
