Dubai Local Tips

Prayer time
Friday is recognized as a day off here because it is an Islamic day of prayer. Don't schedule any meetings if you’re traveling on business.
English
Nearly everyone speaks English here. Most locals will ask you where you’re from, and American’s shouldn’t be ashamed to speak up. In this bastion of capitalism, America is thoroughly admired.
Photo don’ts
Do not photograph local women unless you receive their permission.
Public transportation
Little infrastructure exists in the realm of public transport (i.e. buses and subways), but taxis are easy to come by, especially at all hotels and shopping malls. Opt for taxis over renting a car.
Alcohol and drug laws
Alcohol is legally served on hotel premises only. Drugs are illegal everywhere. Don’t take any chances.
Tourist visas
Most nationalities can receive a visa upon arrival at no extra charge. Check the airport website to verify.
Under the Influence
Don't drink and drive. Accidents are taken very seriously. Here, you are guilty until proven innocent.
