Grafton Street Area One of the city’s liveliest areas, this pedestrian street near the elegant squares of St. Stephen’s Green and Merrion Square is home to upmarket shops and cafés, as well as street artists.
Trinity College & Temple Bar Walk around the beautiful Trinity College campus and admire the grandeur of College Green and Dame Street before crossing over to Temple Bar, the “cultural quarter,” for spirited music, pubs, and entertainment.
O’Connell Street This wide, central street, starting at the River Liffey, is home to the historic General Post Office (GPO) building and the pin-like “Spire” monument, with Henry Street shopping and city theaters The Abbey and The Gate nearby.
The Liberties & Kilmainham These areas are among the oldest in the city, boasting two major cathedrals – Christ Church and Saint Patrick’s – as well as the home of Guinness at St James’s Gate, the historic Kilmainham Gaol, and the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, which houses the Irish Museum of Modern Art.
North Of The Liffey Pass the elegant Four Courts building on the quays to visit the developing Smithfield area, the National Museum at Collins Barracks, and the largest urban park in Europe, Phoenix Park, home to the Dublin Zoo as well as Ireland’s president.
Dublin Bay and the coast Dublin Bay boasts spectacular scenery, with sandy beaches, long piers and pretty fishing villages. There are hilltop sea and mountain views from both Howth on the city’s northside and Killiney on the southside, both accessible by local rail.
