Horseback riding

Hiking around the north coast of the island
The north coast of the island lends itself to do-it-yourself afternoon hikes, with two trails that wind wind their way through the hills past ahu and toppled moai. Ask a taxi to drop you off at the trailhead north of the village and give yourself five hours to trek the length of the route to Anakena Beach. Bring plenty of water and snacks (there are no vendors along the paths).

Playa Ovahe
The beach at Anakena is striking for its moai, but if you’re simply seeking a sea-and-sand escape, duck over to intimate, secluded Playa Ovahe, just east of Anakena. The sparkling white strand, refreshingly free of crowds, fronts clear, calm waters that are great for swimming.
