Eastern Europe When To Go

Peak Season: mid-May to August
This is top travel time in Eastern Europe. Late June to mid-August see the most crowds and peak prices, especially in highly-trafficked areas. Consider Belarus, Serbia, Georgia, or Moldova, which are low season all the time.
Off Season: mid-October to March
Winters can be cold and dank, but gaily-lit Christmas Fairs (and hot wine) help take the chill off. Unless you like to ski, the region is best avoided during these months.
Sweet Spot: April to mid-May; September to mid-October
Although chilly, spring and fall are still welcoming, and offer the added bonus of thinner crowds and off-peak rates. Easter is celebrated with markets, bonfires, painted eggs, and seasonal delicacies.
