Ensenada Shopping

Shopping

Don’t expect to find handicrafts and souvenirs for rock-bottom, Tijuana rates – the steady flow of cruise ships keeps price-tags high. Digging around, however, often reveals items like paintings, woven hats, or bags that are a higher quality than you would find elsewhere. Most shops are found more on Paseo Calle Primera, aka Avenida López Mateos, between Avenida Ruiz and Avenida Blancarte – a stretch that can be covered on foot in about 20 minutes.

Smart Splurge    Great Value
Los Globos great value
Ensenada's largest outdoor flea market is the place for vintage clothing, records, cassette tapes, antiques, electric adapters, and even the occasional used car. Although it’s open daily from 8am to 3pm, the most vendors, and thus the best selection, can be found on the weekends.

Souvenir Shops on Avenida López Mateos
This is the main souvenir drag in Ensenada. Although none of the stores are particularly noteworthy and prices tend to be fairly uniform, you will find the largest selection of goods in the city here. Small hole-in-the-wall shops selling everything from postcards, beach gear and t-shirts to paintings, sombreros, and woven baskets.

Art and Stuff smart splurge
Beneath Ophelia’s restaurant in El Sauzal on the road to Tijuana, this diverse gallery features mostly local paintings and sculptures, many from the folk artist Señora Q – a minor celebrity in the Mexican art world. It’s pricey, but the quality is unbeatable.

Hussong's
With three souvenir-only locations on Avenida López Mateos, the iconic Ensenada cantina probably sells more T-shirts and bumper stickers than beer. Shot glasses, margarita mugs, a full range of good quality cotton shirts let everyone know you’ve been there.

Fausto Polanco smart splurge
Mexican design furniture, fit for the finest haciendas, is the specialty of this branch of the Rosarito gallery. Much of it is inspired from antique designs – think leather sofas and loungers with hand carved wood trim. Similar designs in the U.S. would run 20-30% higher.
