Florence Getting There

The Amerigo Vespucci – sometimes called Peretola – airport (FLR) in Florence is a small airport that serves European flights only. There is a larger airport in Pisa, the Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA), but that is 60 miles away (about 1 hour by train).

The only direct flights connecting Tuscany and the U.S. are operated five times weekly by Delta between Pisa (PSA) and New York (JFK). Most airlines – including American Airlines, Continental, Delta, and United – offer trips from the U.S. with one stop in Milan, Rome, or some other European hub such as London, Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt. Other international carriers serving Florence and Pisa include Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, and Lufthansa.

About 9 hours nonstop from New York to Pisa. Other flights from the East Coast take about 11 hours, including layover; flights from the Midwest, South, and West typically require a connection in New York, Chicago, or Washington, D.C. before continuing across the Atlantic.
