Frankfurt: Neighborhoods

Stadmitte Most of Frankfurt's historical sights, nightlife, restaurants, and hotels are located here. The Hauptwache is an 18th-century landmark at the junction the S-Bahn and the U-Bahn.

Altstadt Much of the altstadt was destroyed in the war, but its buildings were rebuilt in the old style. You’ll find three of the town’s important squares here: Theaterplatz, Goetheplatz, and Rathenauplatz.

Römerberg The historical heart of the city is a good place to begin your exploration of the city. The half-timbered houses and the medieval marketplace will transport you to the Old World.

Ostend Located on the outskirts of Frankfurt, this semi-industrial neighborhood takes aim at the young crowd with hip new restaurants and clubs.

Sachsenhausen On the south bank of the Main, Frankfurt's beguiling “left bank” is lined with cider taverns that serve the local tipple, ebbelwoi (apple wine).

Westend Though it’s mostly known for housing the messe (trade fairgrounds), the increasingly fashionable Westend has many new restaurants and hotels.
