French Wine Regions: When To Go

Peak Season: July to August All Europe is on holiday, leading to major crowds and traffic. If you can’t avoid it, stay to the northeast and stay off the beaten track; and avoid Provence at all costs.

Off Season: November to April Except for a few wine festivals in November, and the Alsatian Christmas markets, a very quiet, if chilly time. If you’re lucky with the weather, November, and especially April, can be great.

Sweet Spot: May to June; September to October The best weather, lots of activity, and limited crowds; still, make reservations in advance to avoid disappointment.
